Distinguished Service Award Winners



First Place

Becky Cheary

Becky Cheary

Becky has worked for OSU for more than 28 years. She began working at the Oklahoma Fruit Research Station, now the Cimarron Valley Research Station, when she was just 13 years old and her family lived on the section. In 1987, she earned her bachelor’s degree from OSU in horticulture and began her journey in research. Beginning with pecan research, Becky eventually moved to be a technician in the turf program. She is very dedicated, reliable and does a top-notch job on all of her research projects.

 

Becky has supervised many graduate students with lab and field work, and she has done a lot of work in the field with data collection and plot maintenance, as well. She has completed the Supervisor Academy, Leadership Development Program and the Advanced Leadership Program offered by HR. Becky has completed various trainings and certification programs to better serve her department. And, in December 2017, earned a bachelor’s degree in Spanish, maintaining a 4.0, while working full-time, in order to enhance her efforts on mission trips to Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, this person volunteers at Welcome Week, 4-H Round-Up, Camp TURF, FarmHouse Fraternity House, and much more. Becky is a rare employee who meets and exceeds all of the qualifications for the SAC Distinguished Service Award.

Shelby Morris

Shelby Morris

Shelby is an individual who is referred to as a self-taught online learning guru who taught herself the software needed to produce online courses to be used on the OSU-Stillwater campus, as well as, at OSU extension offices and branch campuses. She created a new employee training for new Human Resources employees. Shelby then taught herself how to use the various screens in Banner, and created a training module for Banner Human Resources INB screens. She went on to set up training with video and voice recordings of Banner Salary Planner and Budget Development for OSU employees to use as a reference. Shelby has also partnered with other departments on campus to create and provide training to faculty, staff and student workers. She is personable, sincerely friendly, has a can-do attitude, and is a servant leader willing to help anyone at any time with anything.

Colllin Craige

Colllin Craige

Collin has a thirst for knowledge, enjoys a challenge, and is a very quick learner. He has distinguished himself as a leader and an extremely hard worker. He took it upon himself to rebuild and update his department’s website and bring them up-to-speed with social media. Collin's efforts have had a positive impact on faculty, staff, students and the department as a whole. In addition, he manages a research project with two main components: development of mapping software and hardware for an unmanned aerial vehicle, and the design of an unmanned ground vehicle to harvest cedar saplings that have become an invasive nuisance species. He is great at explaining his research project and at getting students excited about becoming an OSU cowboy and a future engineer!

Veneta Banskalieva-Dobreva

Veneta Banskalieva-Dobreva

Veneta is a Senior Research Assistant in the Analytical Services Laboratory of the Robert M. Kerr Food & Agricultural Products Center.  She is a professional food scientist with a PhD who relocated to the U.S. from Bulgaria. She has worked at the FAPC since 2005, and has been in her current position since 2007. Veneta is known for her precision and dependability in research and analysis. She is hardworking, kind and thoughtful, always thinking of others and then doing what she can do to help.

Connie Budd

Connie Budd

Connie currently serves as Director of Undergraduate Microbiology Laboratories. She coordinates the entire Introduction to Microbiology labs, as well as supervising and training the graduate teaching assistants for those lab sections. Under her supervision, Introduction to Microbiology Lab enrollments have grown from 144 students per semester in 2006 to 312 students per semester in 2017. Connie works very hard to serve and support her students, and she is known as being very caring, approachable and helpful to them.

Susan Ramsey

Susan Ramsey

Susan is an Administrative Support Specialist with the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology Professional Development department. She works as part of a team offering professional development courses to business and industry, as well as conferences to both industry and education. Susan is known for her excellent customer service, professionalism and timeliness. Her friendly and positive attitude contributes to a pleasant working atmosphere for everyone in her department.

Chase Rheam

Chase Rheam

Chase is a Communications Specialist in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. As a communications team member, he works primarily with video and electronic media with a target audience of prospective OSU students. Chase has created dozens of videos that highlight many of the reasons why OSU is a great choice for future college students; and, he has received several awards from the Oklahoma College Public Relations Association for his work. Chase has a great sense of humor, is sociable, has a service attitude, and makes others feel included and welcome.

Simon Ringsmuth

Simon Ringsmuth

Simon currently serves as a teaching support specialist in the Institute for Teaching and Learning Excellence (ITLE). Simon spearheaded two of the most recognized and appreciated programs offered at OSU for faculty: the Preparing Online Instructors course and Two-Minute Teaching Tips videos. He has also developed over 100 excellent teaching videos related to D2L and BrightSpace to help faculty members navigate the system. Simon’s positive and supportive approach has earned a high level of trust and credibility with faculty members. He is driven by a desire to support his colleagues and be an effective resource for OSU faculty and instructors. He is seen as the ultimate professional.

Michelle Stewart

Michelle Stewart

Michelle is an Accounting Specialist with the College of Engineering. When Banner rolled out, she took it upon herself to learn the system, then made it her mission to know and understand Banner so that she could assist others. She used the computer lab in her area to provide Banner training to other CEAT departments; and, she continues to share Banner updates and information with others. In addition, Michelle serves as the Wellness officer for CEAT who encourages the staff through funny and informational emails. As always, Michelle strives to do her best and to help others do theirs.

Chuck Willoughby

Chuck Willoughby

Chuck currently serves as Business and Marketing Relations Manager in the Robert M. Kerr Food & Agricultural Products Center and has worked at OSU for the past 20 years. He began his career as an extension assistant, but now works with food industry manufacturers and entrepreneurs. Chuck is a goal-oriented professional with the capability of aggressive independent work or excellent team leadership. He has significantly contributed to more than 100 start-up businesses in Oklahoma. Chuck is a very low-profile and humble person who is reliable, creative and an out-of-the box thinker. He is a model for interaction with clients, peers and administration.
