Staff Advisory Council

While one of the Staff Advisory Council's primary responsibilities is providing recommendations and feedback to university leadership, our committees also dedicate time throughout the year to projects that enhance the OSU experience for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

Through collaboration, research, and advocacy, SAC members work to identify opportunities that promote accessibility, engagement, wellness, and community across campus. Here are a few recent projects that highlight the meaningful work our committees have accomplished beyond the recommendation process.

  • Accessible Events Guide

The Oklahoma State University Accessible Events Guide was developed by the Staff Advisory Council's Access, Community, and Engagement Committee to help faculty, staff, and student organizations create more inclusive and welcoming events. The guide provides practical recommendations for every stage of event planning, including venue selection, registration, communication, transportation, signage, seating, food service, audio-visual accessibility, sensory considerations, and attendee support.

Designed as a resource for event organizers across campus, the guide emphasizes that accessibility is more than a legal requirement. It is an essential part of fostering community engagement, belonging, and equitable participation. The guide also includes helpful resources, best practices, and a comprehensive event planning checklist to support accessible experiences for all attendees.

Whether planning a small meeting, large conference, performance, or community event, this guide offers actionable tools to help ensure every member of the OSU community can fully participate and feel welcome.

  • Lactation Rooms Added to Campus Maps

The Staff Advisory Council's Access, Community, and Engagement (ACE) Committee partnered with campus stakeholders to improve accessibility and support for nursing parents by helping add lactation room locations to Oklahoma State University's online campus maps. This initiative makes it easier for students, faculty, staff, and visitors to locate designated lactation spaces across campus, reducing barriers and creating a more welcoming environment for families.

By increasing the visibility of these resources, the ACE Committee continues its commitment to fostering a campus culture centered on access, inclusion, and community well-being for all Cowboys.

  • Staff Voices in Action

One of the most important roles of the Staff Advisory Council is serving as a bridge between staff and university leadership. Through surveys, committee work, and direct feedback from employees across campus, SAC helps identify opportunities for improvement and provides thoughtful recommendations on university policies, procedures, and initiatives.

By bringing staff perspectives to the table, SAC helps ensure that decisions are informed by the experiences and needs of the employees who contribute to OSU's success every day.
